What if Nintendo and Sony got together all those years ago?

Sony and Nintendo were supposed to come together and make a CD drive attachment for the snes. Which no doubt would have been similar to the Sega CD attachment for the Genesis/Mega Drive. But as we know project never happened and we ended up with the Sony PlayStation and the Nintendo 64 instead, both of which are great consoles in their own right. The point I'm getting at it both Nintendo and Sony are two of the biggest names in gaming these days, and if they actually combined their knowledge and experience together, rather than becoming rivals, how would that have changed the gaming industry be today.

I have always wondered how things would differ if the two companies teamed up which would have lead to getting one mega console. Though this could be both a good and bad thing, on the plus side of things we would have two huge companies working together, with all the experience between them I could see some great things being created, though if they did merge back then there would have been a lot less competition with the possibility of them getting a monopoly, which isn't necessarily a good thing.

I believe the gaming industry may have been further if they did work together back then. Take in to consideration back in 2006 Nintendo released a console with motion controls and Sony released a high definition one. Today we have Move which allows both high definition and motion controls on the Sony side of things and the soon to be released Wii U from Nintendo which will be high def and will be backwards compatible with everything Wii. So if both Sony and Nintendo had been working together, we may well have ended up with a high def console with motion controls 6 years ago. Which leads to the question if that did happen where would we be now?

Wii U Tech Demo

I came across this video showing off some nifty features of Nintendos new console the Wii U. While I still think the name is pretty stupid I am getting ever so more interested in it with the more news I read about it. Below is a video showing off the ability to fully control the camera angles with the tablet controller. I know it doesn't like that big a deal but bare with me and watch the video. It is pretty cool. Whether your a fan or Nintendo or not you have to admit they do come out with some cool ideas.

Wii U may use Origin

I came across an article at gamerant suggesting Nintendos new console might uses EAs digital distribution service. I actually plan on getting a Wii U as I have had a Nintendo console since Snes (or gameboy if that counts). It's an interesting concept anyway. I know a lot of people aren't a fan of Origin. I can't say on this matter as I have never really used it. If anything this may give Nintendo some better games if they are to team up with EA. I also noticed the comments ripping on Origin and how Steam is better are coming in as well. It's a new system it's not going to be amazing straight off, just like Steam wasn't and still isn't (I love it but it's not perfect). I am giving EA benefit of the doubt with Origin to see how it turns out.

Happy Birthday Nintendo 64

Today (29th September not 30th as the post says, I was 20 minutes too late with posting this) the Nintendo 64 turns 15, next year it will be legally old enough to have sex. Anyway while I never actually owned one myself as I was more of a Sega fan back in the day and I still have hopes they will one day get back into the console market, any one that says it will never happen can go away because no matter what you say you will never burst my bubble on this subject. Anyway back to the matter at hand, like I was saying I never physically owned a N64 but a friend of mine all those years ago did and so long as I was Yoshi I could kick any ones ass on Mario Kart, this stands for every version of the game by the way. It was a great little console and I want to wish it a happy birthday and what would a birthday be without cake, as I am pretty sure N64s can not eat actual cake and even if they could it would make a terrible mess. So I give this virtual cake to Nintendo 64 in celebration.
